Softball

Hi everyone, and happy Spring! My name is Coach Hill, and I am the head softball coach at BMS. If you are receiving this letter it is because your student has signed up to try-out for the girls softball team this year. Try-outs are open to all 5th-8th graders and will start (hopefully outside) on Tuesday, March 12th, and run through Tuesday, March 19th. They will be held from 3:15-5:00PM on the softball field. If we must be indoors due to weather, these times are subject to change. All athletes will be expected to attend try-outs every day. In order to try-out, all athletes must have an updated physical with Mrs. Jodion (school nurse) and a signed permission slip. The permission slip must be turned in to Jenn Shafer or Jill Smith (front office) in order to participate in try-outs, so please be sure that your student turns that in, if they have not already done so ASAP.

Everyone should bring all softball equipment for the week of try-outs including: softball pants if they have them – if not shorts, softball bats / helmets (if they have them), and cleats/softball gloves (which are a must). All athletes MUST also bring sneakers every day, in case we hold try-outs in the gym due to weather. Please also be sure that they bring plenty of water for both school and try-outs. There will be a lot of running in the competitive nature of try-outs, so your student should be prepared for what is to come. We have an outstanding number of girls trying out, so in order to ensure everyone gets an opportunity to play and improve, cuts will have to be made. We will most likely make cuts twice, once on Thursday the 14th and again at the end of our try-out period on Tuesday the 19th, unless we see that a student is in danger of hurting themselves on the field, in which case we will make cuts earlier. If you have any questions about your student and the try-out process please feel free to contact me.

If your student does not make the team, I strongly encourage them to play for SFC. The program serves as a great opportunity to build the foundational skills and I fully encourage everyone to try-out for the school team next season. We love to see improvement!
