According to state law, students are required to have a physical exam prior to school entry, and again before entering the sixth grade. These exams may be done by the school physician if the student is financially eligible.
In order that learning takes place, a child must be physically mentally fit to understand. Anytime a child is not feeling well any reason and he/she cannot fully concentrate, his/her progress apt to be slow.
During any school day, your child will be associating with many children. Carefully watch him/her for signs or symptoms of on-coming illness, for his/her -own protection, and that of his/her classmates. When a symptom becomes apparent, keep him/her home, and a call to the family physician is advised if the following persists:
Sore throat Nausea or vomiting Running nose Diarrhea
Chills
Skin rash or sores
Inflamed eye
Restlessness
at nightDischarging ear
Red or swollen joints
Coughing or difficulty breathing
Enlarged glands
Earache
Flushed face
or Unusual palenessTemperature
Please keep your child home if he/she is unable to play outdoors
at recess time.
IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER
1. When a child is kept home, please make sure he/she has a note to explain his/her absence when he/she returns. See the example below.

2. The teacher and the school nurse are always alert for symptoms of illness in your child. Please remember that the school is responsible for instances of sickness or injury occurring on the school premises during school hours and at school sponsored activities. By law, the school nurse cannot diagnose illness or injury. The responsibility for definitive care rests with the parents. If your child is sick or injured, the teacher or school nurse will administer first aid only and, if necessary, send him/her home.
3. Place on file your name, telephone number, and the name and telephone number of your family physician, dentist, and your choice of hospital with the principal's office soon after your child enters our school. Notify the school of any changes in this information during the school year.
4. Place on file information about the person who cares for your child if you are not home during the day, a, friend or a neighbor who will care for the child until you return home.
5. Notify the school when you expect to be out of town.
